Letter of Dismissal Dismissing someone, whether it be from employment, a class, club or organization, is a sensitive matter. Again, like the application rejection letter, it must be tactful and sensitive, yet clear, strong, and concise. In a word: professional. The following letter is a good example. I wrote it, on behalf of a nonprofit, to a student who'd missed too many classes; the nature of the course was such that there was no possibility for the student to catch up. There was no alternative but to dismiss the student, especially considering the course had a very long waiting list, and making an exception was patently unfair to those who'd be faithful in attendance if given the opportunity.
